Healthcare Data Specialist – Central Europe

AstraZeneca is seeking a Healthcare Data Specialist whose insights and expertise will power trusted decisions across the region. You’ll turn public health data into actionable intelligence, supporting internal stakeholders and external partners in shaping the future of healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion Healthcare Insights: Translate vast healthcare datasets into clear, trusted insights to guide stakeholder decisions and healthcare strategy.
  • Build and Maintain Data Catalogues: Develop and sustain a comprehensive inventory of open datasets, including NZIP, SUKL, NEAK, NCZI, and transform raw data into meaningful messages supporting business needs.
  • Monitor the Data Landscape: Proactively track the evolving data environment, identifying new opportunities for data-driven transformation.
  • Partner with Stakeholders: Work alongside medical, commercial, market access, and IBEX teams to translate their business questions into precise data definitions, acquiring necessary datasets and delivering actionable analysis.
  • Advanced Querying & Data Engineering: Write efficient, robust SQL scripts to handle large files, integrating diverse datasets, and managing the end-to-end data pipeline (ingestion, cleaning, transformation, validation).
  • Analytics & Delivery: Produce reproducible analyses and dashboards using SQL, R or Python, and Power BI. Ensure simple, reliable outputs that support timely decisions.
  • Data Stewardship: Continuously curate an up-to-date catalogue of public datasets, metadata, and access requirements.
  • Access & Governance: Prepare and manage official data requests and documentation for data authorities, maintaining compliance with legal, privacy, and governance standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish trusted relationships with business teams, eliciting analytical needs and translating questions into data queries and insights.
  • Documentation & Reproducibility: Ensure all analysis, queries, and outputs are well-documented for reproducibility and auditing purposes.

Your profile

Essential:

  • Passion for Healthcare Data: Deep interest in using data for healthcare improvement.
  • Strong SQL Skills: Comfortable working with large tables (joins, filters, aggregation, basic optimization).
  • Strong Communicator: Clear written and spoken communication—able to explain complex topics with ease.
  • Language Skills: Native Czech or Slovak and advanced English proficiency essential.
  • Organized and Proactive: Effective at tracking tasks, requests, versions, and decisions.
  • Experience of cross functional working, this person will work closely with medical teams so will need the ability to transfer what this team needs in terms of data and how to prepare it for them.

Desirable:

  • Programming Experience: Hands-on analysis and data prep using R or Python.
  • Power BI: Ability to build simple, fast, reliable dashboards.
  • Experience requesting data from authorities such as UZIS, NCZI, NEAK, HIF.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data basics: ICD-10/MKN-10 codes, DRG concepts, claims, registries.
  • Basic statistical experience (comparisons, trends, cohort definitions).
  • Relevant degree in data science, epidemiology, biostatistics, computer science, public health, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience collaborating with hospitals, public institutions, or academic partners.
